White Composite Fillings in Archway, N19
Modern white composite fillings offer a durable, natural-looking solution for tooth decay and damage. At Blue Light Dental & Aesthetic Clinic, we use only high-quality, tooth-coloured composite resin — carefully shade-matched to blend seamlessly with your surrounding teeth.
We are a mercury-free practice. All our restorations use composite or ceramic materials that are both biocompatible and aesthetically superior to traditional amalgam.
Advantages over traditional amalgam fillings
- Matched precisely to your natural tooth colour — virtually invisible
- Bonds directly to tooth structure, requiring less drilling
- Mercury-free and biocompatible
- Supports the remaining tooth, reducing the risk of fracture
- Can be used on front and back teeth
- Old amalgam fillings can be safely replaced with white composite
What to expect
The area is numbed with local anaesthetic before any work begins. Decay is removed, the tooth surface is prepared, and the composite resin is placed in layers and carefully shaped to match your bite. A special curing light sets the material, and we polish it for a natural finish. Most fillings are completed in a single appointment.
Frequently asked questions
How long do white fillings last? With good oral hygiene and regular check-ups, composite fillings typically last 7–10 years, sometimes longer.
Can you replace my old silver amalgam fillings? Yes. Many of our patients choose to have their amalgam fillings replaced with white composite for aesthetic and health reasons. We will assess each filling individually and advise on the most appropriate approach.

How long do white composite fillings last?
A well-placed white composite filling on a back tooth typically lasts seven to ten years; on a front tooth, where forces are lighter, often longer. Longevity depends on three things: the size of the cavity, how well the tooth is cleaned at home, and the bite. Heavily-loaded teeth (the molars you grind food on) wear faster than the smaller fillings used to repair chips and edge wear. We review your fillings at every check-up and advise on replacement timing well before there is a clinical problem.
What to expect at your appointment
Most white composite filling appointments at Blue Light Dental take 30 to 45 minutes per tooth. We numb the area first, gently remove the decay, etch the tooth surface so the composite bonds reliably, then build the filling up in thin layers, curing each one with a blue light. The final stage is shaping and polishing — this is where the natural look comes from. You can usually eat and drink as soon as the numbness wears off, typically within an hour or two.
More questions we get asked
Do white fillings stain like teeth do? Modern composite resists staining well, but very high coffee, red-wine and curry intake can leave a faint shadow on a polish over years. A polish appointment usually restores the original tone.
Are white fillings as strong as silver amalgam? For typical small to medium cavities, yes — modern composite is rated for posterior use. Very large cavities may be better restored with an inlay, onlay or crown.
Will I need an X-ray? Often yes, particularly for cavities between teeth. Our digital X-rays use a low dose and the image is on screen within seconds.
Why patients choose Blue Light Dental for white fillings
Our team places hundreds of composite fillings each year as part of routine and cosmetic dentistry. Treatment is led by Dr Sanyukta Kothari (GDC 283340) and the wider clinical team in our Archway practice on Holloway Road. We use a layering technique with multiple shades of composite so the finish blends with your natural tooth — the goal is a filling no one notices, not even you.
