Dentures in Archway, North London

Dentures are a proven, accessible solution for replacing missing teeth — restoring your smile, your ability to eat comfortably and your confidence in everyday life. At Blue Light Dental & Aesthetics, we provide high-quality complete and partial dentures crafted to look natural and fit well, alongside modern alternatives including flexible and implant-retained options.

We care for patients from Archway, Holloway, Tufnell Park, Highbury, Finsbury Park and across North London N19, N7 and N4.

Types of Dentures We Provide

Complete dentures

Complete (full) dentures replace all the teeth in an upper arch, lower arch or both. They rest on the gum tissue and are supported by the underlying bone and, in the upper jaw, the palate. Modern complete dentures use high-quality acrylic with carefully shade-matched, natural-looking teeth — a far cry from the ill-fitting, obviously artificial dentures of previous generations. We take time to ensure your dentures are well-balanced, comfortable and cosmetically pleasing.

Immediate dentures can be fitted on the same day as an extraction, so you are never without teeth. An adjustment appointment is typically needed after the gum has healed and the bone has settled.

Partial dentures

Partial dentures replace one or more missing teeth while preserving your remaining natural teeth. They are held in place using clasps or precision attachments that anchor to the adjacent natural teeth.

  • Acrylic partial dentures — a lighter, more affordable option
  • Chrome cobalt (metal-frame) partial dentures — thinner, stronger and more durable than acrylic. The metal framework distributes bite forces more evenly and feels more stable in the mouth

Flexible dentures (Valplast)

Valplast flexible dentures are made from a soft, thermoplastic nylon material that flexes gently with the natural movement of the mouth. They have no visible metal clasps — instead, the pink material blends with the gum tissue, making them virtually invisible. Flexible dentures are comfortable to wear, highly durable and ideal for patients with metal sensitivities or those who prefer a purely aesthetic solution.

Implant-retained overdentures

For patients who want the security of dentures that stay firmly in place, implant-retained overdentures combine the cost-effectiveness of a denture with the stability of dental implants. Two or four implants are placed to provide fixed anchor points, and the denture clips onto them securely. This eliminates movement when eating and speaking, prevents the bone loss that occurs under conventional dentures, and dramatically improves confidence. Learn more about dental implants.

The Denture Process — What to Expect

Consultation & assessment
We assess your mouth, discuss your requirements and take any necessary X-rays. We’ll explain which type of denture is most appropriate for your situation and provide a full written treatment plan and cost before proceeding.

Impressions & shade selection
Detailed impressions of your mouth are taken to ensure an accurate fit. You choose the shade and shape of your replacement teeth — we use a careful eye for aesthetics to ensure the result looks natural and suits your face.

Try-in stage
A wax trial denture is made so you can assess the appearance and bite before the final version is produced. We make any adjustments at this stage.

Fitting
Your finished dentures are fitted and checked for comfort, bite and appearance. Minor adjustments are made as needed.

Follow-up care
Follow-up appointments ensure your dentures remain well-fitting as your gum tissue settles. We’re always available to make adjustments.

Caring for Your Dentures

  • Remove and rinse after eating
  • Brush your dentures daily with a soft brush and denture-specific cleaner — not regular toothpaste, which is too abrasive
  • Soak overnight in cold water or a denture cleaning solution
  • Handle over a folded towel or basin of water — dentures can crack if dropped on a hard surface
  • Attend regular dental check-ups — even without natural teeth, the gum tissue and remaining bone still need monitoring

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get dentures?

From initial impression to fitted denture is typically 3–6 weeks, depending on the type of denture and laboratory production time. Immediate dentures can be placed on the same day as an extraction.

Will dentures affect how I eat?

There is an adaptation period — most patients find they need a few weeks to feel fully comfortable eating with new dentures. Starting with softer foods and progressing to harder textures as confidence grows is the usual approach. Well-made, well-fitting dentures allow most patients to eat a normal, varied diet.

Will dentures affect how I speak?

Some patients notice a slight change in speech initially, particularly with sounds like “s” and “f”. This usually resolves within a few weeks as your tongue and lips adapt. Practising speaking aloud at home speeds the process up.

How long do dentures last?

Conventional dentures typically need replacing every 5–8 years. Over time, the jawbone naturally remodels after tooth loss, changing the shape of the gum ridge and causing dentures to become looser. Regular review appointments allow us to advise on when a reline or replacement is needed.

Are dentures covered on the NHS?

We are a private dental practice and do not offer NHS treatment. All treatment is provided on a private fee basis with full cost transparency. Please see our Treatment Fees page for full pricing information.

Can I sleep with my dentures in?

It is generally recommended to remove dentures overnight. This gives the gum tissue a rest, reduces the risk of fungal infection (denture stomatitis) and allows the dentures to be cleaned and soaked properly. Your clinician will advise based on your individual situation.

What if my dentures become loose?

Loosening over time is normal as the underlying bone changes shape. We can reline or rebase your existing dentures to improve the fit, or assess whether replacement is more cost-effective. Implant-retained dentures are the long-term solution for patients who struggle with movement or instability.
